The City of Memphis hosted the twenty‑third Americas Competitiveness Exchange (ACE) a few weeks ago, a prestigious international program that brings innovation, business, and government leaders from across the Americas, South, Central, and North America, together for a week of immersive learning and collaboration.
During their time in Memphis, the group of senior government officials, business executives, university leaders, and innovation experts visited The Works and our project sites.

Our tour began with two charter buses arriving in South Memphis at Lincoln Park Subdivision to begin the morning with us. During the walkthrough of the newly constructed homes, Roshun took the opportunity to discuss the details of the development project and the impact the affordable homes will have on the community.

The next stop was heading a bit north to the heart of the city, Midtown Memphis, to visit our Works Urban Farm in Washington Bottoms. Cellphones out recording and excitment were witnessed as the group had a chance to see an active harvest and hear from the farmers like Jari about how passion guides their efforts in regenerative agriculture at The Works. The group was happy to learn how The Works activated acres of vacant land as a working farm for green workforce development and regenerative infrastructure.

On to the next tour, we head a bit more north on I240 to Frayser to take a look at our newest development, Peach Tree Senior Living. Peach Tree Senior Living is a 72 unit very low income senior community with numerous amenities for the residents, such as a community room, wellness clinic, salon, fitness center, and computer room.

Many questions were asked about how the deal came together in regards to the financing, tax credits, and the partnerships such as the investor, owner, and bank. As always, Roshun was very detailed with just how thorough The Works has to be in community development.

Our last stop on the tour was Northside Square. Northside Square, an adaptive reuse development project, is very popular site globally as it is a model for development, workforce development, community engagement as well as affordable housing.

The ACE guests had a chance to tour the apartments, tenant space, and also speak with Meka Egwuekwe, CEO of Code Crew, who is one of the commercial tenants in Northside Square.

We are grateful to have the opportunity to share our work in the city of Memphis, always. Hosting some of the most influential leaders from the Western Hemisphere at places that are models for what community, collaboration, and development should look was motivating and The Works looks forward to the partnerships developed.
